Keepthebeat Santa Ride, Run, Ramble 2019

Posted on behalf of Keepthebeat

The Keepthebeat Santa event is a fun charity bike ride, run or walk, which has delighted many a participant and spectator since its inception in 2011. The 7-mile cycle route is a mix of off-road bridleways, tracks and road sections, suitable for mountain/hybrid/bmx type bikes. It is possible to complete the route on other less suitable type bikes but be prepared to walk with your bike on parts of the off-road route! The shorter 3-mile running/walking route is on pavement/road and cross-country. Please note that the walk/run route is not suitable for pushchairs. Dogs on leads are welcome. Refreshments will be available at the finish. Each entrant will be provided with a Santa suit or elf suit (limited numbers for children), which must be worn at all times.

The entry fee is £10 for Adults and £5 for Children this is payable to Keepthebeat. Cycling entrants must be 16 or over on the day of the event. Juniors must be accompanied by a full paying adult.

We would like everyone taking part to try and raise at least £20.19 which will go directly to Keepthebeat (Registered Charity 1143119) who give hope and support to those affected by congenital heart defects. If you raise £50 or more you will be entitled to claim a Keepthebeat hoodie in the new year.

Once your entry and payment have been received you will be sent full details about the event via the email address that you provide. If you do not receive your tickets please check your spam folder before getting in touch with a member of the team.

Start practising your “ho, ho, ho’s”!

Terms and Conditions

I agree to participate in this event entirely at my own risk and understand that no liability shall attach to the organiser, officials and supporters of this event, for any injury, loss or damage suffered by me, or any children I am the responsible adult for during the event, in or by reason of the event however such may be caused and whether by negligence or otherwise.

Entrants should note that this event is held on public highways, bridleways & footpaths. Riding Santa's should be aware of other users and should ride safely according to the rules of the road and within your own capabilities. Cycling Santa’s must wear a helmet at all times.

Walking / Running Santa’s & Elves should keep to footpaths where possible and take extra care when crossing roads.

The organisers will provide ‘rolling marshals’ in the form of experienced riders for the ride & ‘static marshals’ for the walk. They are there to provide guidance & encouragement to entrants during the event. Whilst the marshals will endeavor to support entrants wherever possible, you must consider yourself & children in your care as being on a private excursion and rely on your own arrangements in the event of failure to keep the course, whether through mechanical failure (ride) or accident. Applications are strictly personal, firm & binding. Entry fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. Entries cannot be transferred to another person for any reason whatsoever.

I understand and accept that this event is not a race; it is a fun charity cycle ride, walk & run. The object is to complete the course, on two wheels or by foot, dressed as Santa (or one of his elves!)

Anti-Bullying Week

Posted on behalf of Sensei Rob Phelps

Anti-Bullying Week
This runs November 11th - 15th and this year we will be running a course for children ages 6-14 (please contact us if you know someone younger or older who needs this course and we will be able to advise you)
The course runs over three days, two of which coincide with our scheduled Earl Shilton classes, so that our current students can attend too.

Course details;
Monday November 11th 5:30-6:30pm
Wednesday November 13th 5:30-6:30pm
Saturday November 16th 12:30-2:30pm

This course is FREE to all, please encourage your children to bring their friends, if you know someone who would benefit, then please tell them about it and encourage them to join us.
We will cover;
- Positive mental attitude
- Relaxation
- Confidence strategies
- Verbal de-escalation
- Our 5 rules of self-defence; 1. Don't be there, 2. Don't get hit, 3. Don't go to ground, 4. Get up!, 5. Scale your response
- Sparring, for those who can manage that, with head gear and good gloves
- Ground fighting/wrestling

If children can learn effective confidence, relaxation and awareness stratergies, alongside some fighting skills if it all goes pear shaped, then these are skills for life.

We appreciate that some will simply be too shy to get involved in all of it, but we will encourage and provide a safe learning environment to give them the very best chance.
